response from property -Hey Diego, thank you for your review! We agree, having the package locker system is pretty great. We're glad you're loving your new home and glad you're part of the Maxwell community!

I toured numerous apartments and knew this place was for me immediately after my tour. The location is perfect, it’s beautiful and well kept, and they treat their tenants very well. For instance, they leave us little treats at our doors for special or fun holidays and provide events for all tenants to attend. The maintenance man is so sweet and is quick and efficient for any issues. Also, I don’t know if I just have really great neighbors but I never hear a peep. To me, how thick the walls were was one of the first things I noticed about living here. I honestly recommend this place to everyone I know because I can’t say enough great things

submitted by Emily S. - |Recommended: NoWanted To Love It... — I was so excited to move into the Maxwell. It seemed like a major upgrade from our last DSM apartment. For the most part my short time here was okay but there were definitely things that would make me not recommend or want to live here again. For instance, the main door buzzer. There is no way for me to let people in, get deliveries, etc. If a delivery person does not have my telephone number and cannot get into the building I am sometimes unable to get packages. I called the office to ask about this and the person working was extremely rude. Acted like I was asking an insane question and told me they don't do that anymore I was confused, so I ended up writing an email to ask if my apt would be added into the buzzer box or what the situation was, someone wrote back and said they would look into it and let me know...I have yet to receive a response and I move out in a couple months. The maintenance man is very nice but is NEVER wearing a mask-even when he comes into your apartment. My windows leaked constantly, I had to remove everything from the windowsill or I would wake up to them in a puddle so far just during winter I had read other older reviews about the window buzzer issues and assumed they would be fixed but it was not. There is also an EXTREMELY loud noise that happens EVERY Saturday at 11 30-12 from the neighboring apt complex-some machine on the roof. I was not informed about this during my tour or after I moved in. It just happened the first Saturday I lived here and I didnt know what it was or when it would stop but soon learned it was a weekly half hour occurrence. It is extremely loud and obnoxious and definitely something you should inform your renters about-PRIOR to them moving in. Moving in is also a hassle as they only let you use the front doors which are hard to prop open and a key is required as the buzzer doesn't work, I am anxious about the move out process...The walls are also extremely thin My neighbors above and to the side were always a constant issue. I felt like they were going to break down the walls to my apt sometimes. Not sure if this was due to the walls or just rude neighbors but it was an annoyance. The elevator was also always kind of gross. There was constant animal fur and urine in it and in the halls. We also received an email from Maxwell saying that if we had run into financial problems due to covid they would be willing to help, I lost my job due to covid and am now having to relocate due to financial issues and asked about ending my lease early and they said no, it would cost more to do that. I assumed that they would be willing to help since they sent that email but that was not the case. Unfortunately due to Covid and winter I didn't really get to experience the patio or other amenities so I cant review those. I think my studio is a bit expensive for what you get and its location in the building is less than desirable-across from skywalk, parking ramp, lots of noises and lights constantly and also paying to park in a nearby ramp is not the most convenient either-getting groceries was a hassle and couldn't get them delivered all the time because of the buzzer situation I think if you got an apartment on the other side of the building and had a bigger budget than me, this could be the place for you but unfortunately not for me.
response from property -Thank you for taking the time to bring these items to our attention. We greatly value honest feedback from our residents. We have since addressed several of the items mentioned, starting with a new management team! The front door buzzer is working again, and we have new pet-friendly flooring in the elevator. We encourage all residents to reach out with any maintenance or neighbor concerns so we can address them immediately. We were glad to have you as a Maxwell resident!

This is my second lease at Maxwell, and it's the perfect location if you're looking for the downtown experience. Highly recommend Also-the apartments themselves are gorgeous, with updated finishes to reflect modern taste. FOB card for the front door is also your apartment key-super convenient and hassle free

Pre-COVID, plenty of opportunities to meet neighbors and enjoy patio community space amenities.
submitted by Shakeeb S. - |Recommended: NoNo Recycle — The trash area doesn’t have recycling and when you point that out to the manager they punt the blame. This has been going on since we moved in.

The apartment itself was in tiptop shape and clean when I moved in and the common areas are always pristine I absolutely love living at Maxwell. The only thing missing is a work out room
submitted by Gabrielle A. - |Recommended: YesOverall Nice — There is some construction occurring on the fifth floor, so the patio is dirty with debris that the workers have thrown over. Some residents allow their pets to use the patio as a bathroom, when they should be taking them on walks. The maintenance staff works quickly, and other than the security guard, the staff is very nice. They are professional and prompt, but there are things that need attention. For instance, the trash should be picked up twice a week given the amount of overflowing trash that is present. The community room, although not allowed to have alcohol, had a huge party in it last night. Despite some of these negatives, I do feel safe here. My car is parked in the safe, warm garage. I feel as though no one would bother me here, or hurt me. I love that my unit has an in-unit washer and dryer, as well as a dishwasher. Katie, the property manager, is always nice and helpful. So is Doug, the maintenance man. I would recommend that people come check it out, it's in a great area.
submitted by Christopher B. - |Recommended: YesA Downtown Must — I have lived at Maxwell since March 2019, and am a raving fan. The location couldn't be better You're a quick walk to literally everything, connected to the sky-walk system, and have some of the nicest apartment finishes in the area. Katie, the current property manager, always handles concerns with grace and tact in a timely manner. Doug, the maintenance guy, is seasoned in the field and is happy to help residents any way he can. Perks to the property online maintenance requests, online rent payments, interactive resident events, and a first class resident community room that is rentable. The rooftop courtyard is also a nice urban escape. The electronic FOB entry is a great touch for downtown living. There are unlimited food options in every direction. One of the best Mexican-American restaurants is right across the street If the nearby dining options weren't enough, the benefit of being able to walk to the grocery store via the sky-walk in the cold Iowa winter should be. Parking is limited in the garage, but once you secure your space you're good to go. Also-this was one of the most pet friendly communities in downtown. My cats transitioned seamlessly from their Seattle apartment in no time. We're very happy to live well at Maxwell, and highly recommend it to anyone looking for the downtown DSM experience.
